More H2O - Recruiting Update

Hobart College has had more student athletes declare their commitment to becoming future Statesmen. The latest include:

A BIG SR OL from Newfield HS (Selden, NY), Devon Adamo is the latest Hobart player from "Strong Island". At 6'3" 265 lbs., setting a recent PR at 600 lbs. squatting, Adamo is looking like a great get for Hobart. His highlight reel can be seen here.

The Statesmen have developed a strong connection to the Boston suburbs via lacrosse. It’s playing off  football wise with the addition of SR LSHS ATH Griffin Brown. He can play WR and DB so it'll be interesting to see how he fits into the Hobart scheme.

His highlight reel can be viewed here.

Following in the footsteps of HC Kevin DeWall '00 is Waterloo HS SR ATH Joel Kraft.  A multi-sport athlete (lacrosse and basketball), Kraft brings size (6'3" 210 lbs.) and versatility to the Statesmen. While he certainly can run and catch the ball, I think Kraft as a future LB given his range, speed and athleticism.

His highlight reel can be seen here.

Last but certainly not least is Cardinal Spellman HS (Bronx, NY) LB Dylan Williams-Molitor who brings an undersized, but fierce pass rush to the table. At 6'1" 190-5 lbs. he's typical OLB size who will need to adjust from a four to a two technique. You can get a better view on what DWM brings to the table here.

Please welcome the Adamo, Brown, Kraft, and Williams-Molitor families to the Hobart one.

Three More Recruits Declare Commitment to Statesmen

While it's a new decade, the one thing that hasn't changed is Twitter effectively being the official app for future college student athletes to let the world know where they will be playing in the fall. It's been a good week for the Hobart College Football team as three more recruits have committed to the program.

These new recruits include:

Boston College High School (BCHS) SR CB James Mahoney: A 5' 10" 180 lbs. cover corner, Mahoney has good field vision and the ability to shed blocks and close out plays. His highlight reel can be seen here.

Another MA native and CB/WR, the Pingree School (South Hamilton, MA) SR Zach Manuel tweeted out his commitment to Hobart College also. A taller, lankier player at 6' 2" 175 lbs., Manuel will bring some height and length to the defensive secondary. His highlight reel can be seen here.

Last, but certainly not least is Red Jacket HS (Shortsville, NY) SR WR/DB Chase Rizzo. He tweeted out that he was:

"honored to say that I will be continuing both my academic and athletic careers at Hobart College! Thank you to everyone who has supported and helped me get to this point!"

He is seen below with DC Aaron Backhaus '00 (who was recently honored as the Ability Partners Foundation Volunteer of the Year at the 17th annual Winter Gala and Auction in the Finger Lakes.)

Speaking of height and length, Rizzo is 6'4" and runs a 4.6 40-yard dash thanks to his long strides. While he certainly has the hands and feet of a WR, I could see Coach Backhaus wanting him in the defensive secondary.

Please join me in welcoming the Mahoney, Manuel and Rizzo families to the Hobart Statesmen one!

Brown Signs with Statesmen

Earlier this week, Archbishop Wood HS (Philadelphia, PA) SR WR Matthew Brown took to twitter to announce his commitment to being a Hobart College Statesman. Last season, AWHS won the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) 5A State Championship.

While Matthew appears to be a relative newcomer to FB, his highlight reel shows his athleticism and nose for the football. A strong special teams player, I could see Brown getting some initial experience his FY season at Hobart as part of that group. Standing 6'1" 185 lbs, he certainly has the size, and,  with nearly a 1300 on his SATs and over a 4.0 GPA, the smarts to play D3FB.

Please join me in welcoming Matthew and Brown family to the extend Hobart Football one!

Seton Hall's Siegel Selects Statesmen

Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, NJ) SR OL Matthew Siegel took to twitter last week to let folks know he's heading to Hobart College.

The 6'1" 260 lbs road grader is the type of interior OL prospect that HC Kevin DeWall '00 loves. His highlight reel is full of pancakes, pulls and other plays that show his athleticism. Siegel will add depth to the Hobart OL which needed some time to come to fruition in 2019.

Please join me in welcoming Matthew and the extended Siegel family to the Hobart one!

Class of 2024 Starts to Take Shape

Hope everyone had a happy and fun Super Bowl weekend. I thought it was a great game, and quite a comeback by Kansas City. My pick to win was the 49ers because of their defense, but it seems like you need a top QB and offense to win in the NFL these days.

On the college front, the Hobart Statesmen are starting to get commitments from student athletes as the 2020 season approaches. The first is from New Hampshire, as all the way back on 12/9/19, St. Paul's School SR OL/DL Jack Johnston committed to play for Hobart.

St. Paul's is one of the best prep schools in the country, and they're pretty good at football too, winning the Evergreen and NEPSAC bowl titles in 2018 and 2019. Jack has great size (6'4" 235 lbs) and speed for a DT/DE and should be able to add depth to the Statesmen DL as a FY player. You can check out his highlights here.

Also joining the Statesmen as part of the #H20 team is nearby Pittsford Mendon/Sutherland HS (NY) SR RB Isaiah Cotton. He announced on 1/31/20 on twitter that he was:

"Very thankful and blessed to announce that I will be continuing my academic and football careers at Hobart College. Thank you to everyone who has helped along the way!"

His highlight reel shows he's a fast and elusive runner who can make catches (and tacklers miss) out of the backfield. Cotton isn't just a football player, however, as he won the Farash Foundation Scholarship for also being outstanding in the classroom.

Statesmen fans and family should be very excited both Johnston and Cotton will be joining the Hobart College Statesmen this fall.

Thanks as always for reading and I'll post more recruiting and other news as it happens.
