A Statesmen parent recently noticed and passed along to me the fact that the 2020 season opener has been revealed....on the Alfred University Football website.
As stated in my post back on January 22, Alfred was also left in the lurch by a PAC team (Thiel) on a previously agreed upon game. The Statesmen and Saxons appear to have come to terms given the below and will play each other in Week 1 of the 2020 season (9/5):
The Saxons and Statesmen have a long history with Hobart holding a slight 39-35 all time series advantage. Hobart last played Alfred all the back in 2007 and has won 10 in a row vs. the Saxons, the last loss coming in the 1995 season.
Based on that news, we now know the following:
Week 1 @ Alfred
Week 2 vs. TBD (see below)
Week 3 @ Rowan (based on the fact this is a home-home series)
Week 4 vs. TBD (see below)
Week 5 vs. Union
Week 6 @ RPI
Week 7 vs. Ithaca
Week 8 - BYE WEEK
Week 9 @ Saint Lawrence
Week 10 @ Buffalo State
Week 11 vs. Rochester (Senior Day)
What remains to be seen is whether or not Week 2, Hobart's home opener, will once again be against SUNY-Morrisville? I believe the series against the Mustangs is similar to the 4-year agreement the Statesmen had with Brockport, but I don't want to make any assumptions (but I do feel pretty confident this Week 2 matchup remains intact). SUNY-Morrisville was also the home opener for Hobart back in 2018, but they haven't posted their 2020 schedule just yet.
That just leaves the Homecoming Game / Week 4 as once again the big one that's still up in the air. There are several possibilities on what team it might be, but it's being closed guarded for the moment. Montclair State was a "one and done" deal, but there are certainly other NJAC teams that could fit the bill. Another possibility could be a game with a team from New England, as several other LL teams have scheduled OOC games with teams from that region in recent seasons.
With the schedule release still pending, all we fans can do is sit back and wonder. Approximately 75% of all D3FB teams have posted their 2020 schedule. I am certainly looking forward to seeing Hobart's out there soon.
Thanks for reading and go 'Bart!
