The Hobart Statesmen received additional preseason praise from Lindy's Sports Awards, landing a #13 ranking and having JR OL Ali Marpet and JR DE Tyre Coleman recognized on their All-DIII first offensive and defensive teams, respectively. SR OLB/SS Devin Worthington also merited a second All-DIII defensive team mention as well.
SR RB Steven Webb received a "call out" in the Top 25 ranking as "giv[ing the] Statesmen another shot to match record-setting 2012."
A link to the ranking and preview can be found here.
While the Statesmen appreciate the preseason praise, the coaching staff is keeping things in perspective. Offensive Coordinator Kevin DeWall told "Comin Atcha" that "preseason ranking[s] will go largely off how we finished last season, which is a nice start, but we all know that means nothing to how we and play and finish this year."
I think this is the right way to look at these rankings. At the end of the day, when the Dickinson College Red Devils come to Geneva on Saturday, September 7th, both teams will be 0-0.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading and go 'Bart!
