Little Falls' Jaquay Signs with Statesmen

I've been waiting for this news to become official as I've seen Little Falls (NY) HS SR TE/DE Tanner Jaquay posting and commenting on Hobart Football related tweets for a while now. I also realize, while I never had a chance to meet him, Tanner was on the sideline like I was for the Rochester game back in November.

Needless to say, Tanner took to twitter last night to announce that he was "so excited" and "proud to announce" his commitment to Hobart.

I feel like Tanner and I are kindred spirits, not just because of the Hobart connection, but because he appears to also enjoy calling games and discussing sports in a podcast format. Either way, based on his leadership (2-year elected captain of his team), athleticism (3-year varsity letter winner, NYS 1st team Section 3 All-Star and Senior Bowl selection), and academics (4.0 GPA), we very well could be looking at a future leader of Hobart Football in the next four years.

Please join me in welcoming Tanner and the extended Jaquay family to the Hobart College Football one!

As always thanks for reading (and let's win a National Championship tonight in Hockey!) and go 'Bart!

Hamilton West's Dixon Picks Hobart

Before we drop even more recruiting news, how about those Hobart "Skatesmen"?!? Hobart won 3-1 last night to punch their ticket to the National Championship men's ice hockey game! If I'm not mistaken, this is the first time in 29 years a Hobart team has made it to the finals (and it's been 30 since Hobart won a championship - the 93-lacrosse team being the last one to do it). The Statesmen will square off against defending champs, Adrian College (MI) in Beverly, MA this Sunday night.

Can't wait!

In other news, Hamilton West High School (Trenton, NJ) SR DB/WR Zeshan Dixon announced on twitter that he is "excited to announce that I am committed to Hobart & William Smith Colleges! Thankful to and for the Man Above🙏🏾. Also, thanks to [Coach DeWall] and the rest of the coaching staff for giving me the opportunity to continue my academic and athletic career."

Based on his highlight reel, Dixon is a versatile player who could help Hobart as a deep safety or WR (who can really block well, I might add). He has good field vision and quickness to the ball as a tackler.

Please join me in welcoming Zeshan and the extended Dixon family to the Hobart College Football one!

Tilton's Bentley Commits to Hobart

Tilton HS (Andover, MA) SR QB Mark Bentley posted to his twitter account that he's "Back in business" and effectively committed to attend and play football at Hobart College per the photo below:

Based on his feed, it appears as though the Statesmen beat out offers from Sacred Heart, Franklin Pierce and Endicott College to land this sought after QB.

Please join me in welcoming Mark and the extended Bentley family to the Hobart College Football one!

Hobart Lands a Big One in Haust

Baker HS (Baldwinsville, NY) and Merrimack College OL Ethan Haust took to twitter to announce that he is "committed" and thankful to HC Kevin DeWall '00 for "this amazing opportunity" to come and play football at Hobart. At 6' 260 lbs. Haust has good size to help add to the Statesmen OL at guard.

You can check out his highlights from BHS here. He has impressive footwork and quickness for a guy his size, and I expect he could be in the mix for one of the several open starting OL roles this preseason.

Please join me in welcoming Ethan and the extended Haust family to the Hobart College Football one!

Thanks as always for reading and go 'Bart!

Westside's McGee Jr. Picks Hobart

The Statesmen have gone all the way down to Macon, GA to find and secure the commitment of what looks like an impressive interior Westside HS SR DL/DE in DonJuan McGee, Jr.

A reporter named Marvin James II (@sportsguymarv) tweeted out a photo of WHS's five college football signees yesterday. While he didn't quite get our name right (called us Hobart University), you can see from the photo that DonJuan, seated on the far right, is rocking a purple and orange Hobart (College) hat.

McGee, Jr. appears to have a quick first step and his highlight reel is chock full of sacks, TFL and other outstanding defensive plays. A solid all-around athlete, McGee, Jr. also put in some plays as a TE or HB. He even ran a successful fake punt.

A stocky but solid 6' 240 lbs., McGee, Jr. should be a potential impact player for the Statesmen who have needs on the DL going into the fall season.

Please join me in welcoming DonJuan and the extended McGee family to the Hobart College Football one!

DePaul Catholic's Monteyne Picks Hobart

Another specialist has announced his commitment to attending Hobart College as part of the Class of 2027! This time it's DePaul Catholic HS (Wayne, NJ) SR PK Luke Monteyne who announced last night on Twitter he's coming to Geneva.

Luke appears to be able to do it all - handling KOs, punts, FG and PAT duties. His stats with one of the strongest HS teams in NJ were impressive also - 7/8 on FGs (including a 40-yarder), 20+ touchbacks on KOs (many over 60 yards!) and averaging 38+ YPP.

You can check out Luke's highlights here

Monteyne released the following statement regarding his commitment to Hobart:

He'll compete for time with incoming FY PK Aidan Punch, who I wrote about back in February, behind or alongside JR PK Tobias Wefering, pending the results of fall preseason camp.

Please join me in welcoming Luke and the extended Monteyne family to the Hobart College Football one!

The "Duke of St. Paul's" is Signing with the Statesmen

The latest member of the Hobart College Football Class of 2027 is Saint Paul's School (NH) SR LB David "Duke" Charles II. One of my buddies from back in the day, Chris Smith '98, is the Associate AD at SPS, so it's always great to see someone from that school picking HWS for their college years ("Smitty" is always promoting our alma mater).

David looks like a ferocious presence at ILB having the size (6' 1" and 220 lbs.) and skill we've become accustomed to in the Hobart LB corps. You can check out his highlights here

In a tweet from March 4th, "Duke" stated that:

Please join me in welcoming Duke and the extended Charles family to the Hobart Football one. I have a feeling this student athlete will be someone to watch in the near future on defense for the Statesmen.
