Coach Cragg Reports from Spring Camp
Yesterday Hobart Football Head Coach Mike Cragg updated former players, SAA members, friends and family of the Statesmen Football program via email. Coach Cragg congratulated and thanked the 18 seniors who graduated on May 13th and also officially named the team's 5 new co-captains (please see my post on 4/15/12). Cragg also indicated that spring camp allowed many younger players opportunities to compete and gain valuable experience prior to this fall's camp.
Of particular interest to this Statesmen fan was this update:
"The offensive line used the spring to improve their strength and come together as a unit, while the offensive skill players focused on timing and precision. On the defensive side of the ball, our secondary worked primarily on communication and technique. With three returning starters at linebacker and some key contributors in the defensive line back, the defensive front should be a strong point again this fall. We finished up our spring practices with an intra-squad scrimmage, which pitted the offense against the defense. The defense was spotted 21 points and it was up to the offense to close the gap in two quarters of play. In the end, the offense was able to post 21 points on three scoring passes and the scrimmage concluded in a tie." - Coach Mike Cragg 5/30/12
Coach concluded his update thanking the friends and family of the program. My favorite part of the update was Cragg's commitment to "make a push to defend our 2011 Liberty League Championship and a bid at the National Championship in 2012."
The bar is set high for the Statesmen in 2012 and we're only three months away until kickoff. Go 'Bart!
